Prodded by Mum and Becky finding these record cards in the National Archive
And this screen shot which promises more from Ancestry when I rejoin.
There are a number of extant artifacts:
A small piece of paper smuggled out of Germany to notify the family where he was when taken POW. I believe Mum has this, an also:
A small soap dish with scratched in details of the camps he was held in.
A carved broach or pendant.
Some tartan swatches and a cap badge from his regiment.
I have a number of cap badges and ribbons which Grandad had placed in an envelope labelled “John Willy” - his name for me.
A regimental history.
